Bjarni Benediktsson chairman of the independence party said the negotiation result in the Icesave case the same as we had lost the case in court and the ruling would have been that all of the claims were to be on the negotiating party. He said it is clear what the defence congress is in this case, Iceland, and men able to get their rights there. He said that it is a scandal if the loan of the IMF is held hostage because of this case, and if the Netherlands and English are going to disconnect certain EU chapters. Icelanders want stand up to their international commitments, but they only want to be clear on what they are. Bjarni said that there are no legal reasons to approve the government responsibility. It is possible to quote legal opinions to get that confirmed. "It has been said that this system is not constructed to be able to survive a collapse of the bank system. The legal reasons are not there." Then he said that the numbers that have to be paid are far beyond what was introduced when the foreign matters committee before the end of last year. "The numbers are unbelievable, they are amazingly large."
