Vigorous earthquakes were tonight originating north west of Grindavik and were very noticeable in the capital area. According to the rough numbers of the Icelandic Meteorological Office were two earthquakes and the stronger one measured at 3,9 Richter. According to the European earthquake institution was the earthquake 4,7 Richter.

Many aftershocks followed but they are much smaller or from 1,5 - 1,8 richter.

From the police on call in Sudurnes have no announcements been about damages or injuries because of the earthquake, even though it was probably noticed by every person in Grindavik. Windows bent and doors started to move but the Sudurnes inhabitants seem to be very calm about the earthquake from what the police said.

Today is exactly one year since the South Iceland quakes that caused enormous damage in Hveragerdi, Olfus and Arborg.
