The first case of H1N1 also known as swine flu has been diagnosed in Iceland and four are suspected of having the swine flu in addition to that. This was said in the announcement from the national contamination surgeon general. Then it says that the cases are in the capital area and south Iceland.

At the meeting of the contamination surgeon general and civil defense this morning a decision was taken to not declare emergency at this time because of the persons who are ill are not seriously ill. On the other hand are messages sent to the contamination surgeons around the country to tighten the surveillance in the health care system, report suspicious illnesses immediately and take samples.

All of the cases here in Iceland are within the same family. The first one who was ill came from abroad a week ago and it has now been confirmed that he has the influenza. The other four got ill following that and also suspected of having the Influenza A (H1N1)
