The teachers association of Iceland is a member to Education International, EI, as well as 400 other teachers associations from 172 countries, as well as CNEH (Confédération Nationale des Educateurs d´Haiti) which is the teachers association in Haiti. In a letter to all of the member associations because of the earthquake said Fren van Leeuwen CEO of the EI amongst other: "All of us have our thoughts with the survivors and the Haitian nation during this horrible time. The long term effect of the earthquake will be enormous and the EI will with all of its power assist the CNEH to support the teachers, students and the community in whole in the project to rebuild their lives again and return to school and work."
