Pallborðið á borgarafundinum.Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, minister of finance, said at the town meeting at Iðnó tonight that no expence had been spared in assisting the negotiationg committee  which negotiated the deal with the Brits and the Dutch about the Icesave committments.

Steingrímur said that among others lawyers, both foreign and domestic, had been hired to counsel the committe, including a very prestigous british law firm.

He also said that in the committee had been, in addition to Svavar Gestsson,  ambassador and chairman, a lawyer, a businessa administrators and economists from the Prime ministry, the foreign ministry and the Central Bank. All these institutions were standing by their representatives and were endorsing the deal.

Gunnar Sigurðsson, chairman of the meetings, asked Steingrímur how he  would have reacted in a town meeting if the Indipendance party had been in power and had picked Hannes Hólmsteinn Gissurarson to lead the negotiating committee. Steingrímur said that Svavar was an experienced negotiator and he himself would trust many persons from the Indipendence party to a job like this.
