He also said that in the committee had been, in addition to Svavar Gestsson, ambassador and chairman, a lawyer, a businessa administrators and economists from the Prime ministry, the foreign ministry and the Central Bank. All these institutions were standing by their representatives and were endorsing the deal. Gunnar Sigurðsson, chairman of the meetings, asked SteingrÃmur how he would have reacted in a town meeting if the Indipendance party had been in power and had picked Hannes Hólmsteinn Gissurarson to lead the negotiating committee. SteingrÃmur said that Svavar was an experienced negotiator and he himself would trust many persons from the Indipendence party to a job like this. Â
