| Great disappointment that the policy rates are not lowered faster |
| Thursday, 02 July 2009 10:48 |
Johanna Sigurdardottir PM said at the Parliament today that it is a great disappointment to her that the policy rates are not lowered faster than they have been lowered recently. She said she thinks the reason for that the central bank did not lower the policy rated today is because the króna needs to gain more strength. It has also proved to be difficult to get foreign currency returned to Iceland. Petur H. Blondal parliamentarian of the independence party asked Johanna about the policy rates. Johanna answered that the flow of finances in to Iceland has to be looked at more closesly. There has been failure in that amongst other regarding the aluminum companies. That is supposed to be worked on. Johanna also said that she has faith in that the goals of the stability treaty will be met, that is that the policy rates are to be under 10% in November.
