28.500 families heading into bankruptcy  E-mail

"If nothing changes are 28.500 families going to be bankrupt before the end of this year. If we base on the index number family, then this will affect roughly 100 thousand Icelanders," said Birkir Jon Jonsson progressive party during the discussions about economic matters at the parliament today.

Birkir Jon said that there are extreme actions needed to prevent a horrible evolution in the country.

"We must look to what happened for instance in Faeroe Islands in the beginning of the nineties when one out of every three individuals between 25-45 years of age left the country. Iceland has 90 thousand individuals in this age range and they have 90 thousand descendants. This is the number of people who are going to be the first to pack their bags and look for new employment opportunities if there are none available here in Iceland," said Birkir Jon.

Icesave
written by Londoner, August 22, 2009
If I were a young Icelander today I would leave. The prospect of staying in Iceland to pay off Icesave whilst people like the Björgolfssons, Jon Asgeir, et.al. are laughing from their tax paradises is disgusting, and I would not want to take part of it.

YOU MUST SAY NO TO ICESAVE!
