Friday, 26 June 2009 19:25

Ögmundur Jónasson heilbrigðisráðherra.Ögmundur Jónasson minister of health refuses to let the mayor of Reykjanesbær but him up against a wall, but the Heilsufélag Reykjaness, Salt Investments and the nordic healtfirm Nordhus Medical are waiting answere to weather they will be able to rent the underutilized surgeries of the Sudurnes Hospital and Health Center.

Nordhus wants in collaboration with Salt, to cut up nordic patients that are waitlisted in the home countries in the sugeries and has already secured contracts with the Norvegian and Swedish authoroties for subsidie. The affair was first brought to Ögmundur in February.

Ögmundur promises that Arni Sigfússon, mayor and chairman of the Heilsufélag Reykjaness, will hear from thim during the week: ' But we are planning the healthcare service with long term goals in mind not short term business interests, that is very clear.' He is now replannig the running of healtcare institutions of the state. 'If people can't hold back for the weeks that this matter takes to be worked out they just have to live with that themselves.'

Ögmundur points out that the nation is now facing the fact that big businessdreams are coming to nothing, the last of which was when Sjóva lost billions in Hong Kong: 'I am not saying there is any similarity hera but this is an example for us to see again and again how damaging it can be to make the basic service tie onto vested intererst, that is why I want to tread lightly to earth in all matters on behalf of taxpayers and the community.'

Árni says that in a letter from Sudurnes Hospital and Health Center to the Heilsufélag on the 5ht of June they express interest in partnering up with them but the ministery is apposed to it. The usage of the surgeries is about 10% and health related services can create up to 300 jobs with in the community: 'If the answere is no they are destroying a big job oppertunity here.'

Otto Nordhus, founder of Nordhus Medical, is surprised by the wait; 'Icelandic government looked to their nordic allies searching for a loan. They were granted but when they are offered to increase jobs they say no!'
