The reason why fewer companies have filed for bankruptcy in May of this year than last year is that the financial reorganisation of many of them has been delayed and the banks haven't been pressuring them to file bankruptcy. Loftorka in Borgarnes has filed a petition for bankrupcy. The company currently employes 70 people and has been the biggest workplace in the commune.
The newsweb Skessuhorn reports today that Loftorka Borgarnes ehf. filed a petition for bankrupcy today with the District Court of the west. A liquidator will be put in charge of the company. |

The administrators of the real estate company Saxbygg have put in a request for bankruptcy. The liquidating manager will be set for the bankrupt estate. Saxbygg owns 52% of Smaralind against Islandsbanki and has been very large in the real estate market.
Saxbygg has been owned in half by Saxhol, which is related to the Noatun family, and BYGG the construction company of Gunnar & Gylfi.

The district court of Reykjavik approved today to take Fons, holding company of Palmi Haraldsson and Johannes Kristinsson into bankruptcy procedure. The company owns Securitas and Plastprent. Palmi says this is a shock. The company has been in a better position than many other companies.

In February 2009 were 76 companies made bankrupt compared to 56 companies in February 2008, which equals to a 36% increase between the years. At the website of the national registry are most of the bankruptcies in construction and housing creation or 19 and 15 in hole and small sales, repairs or automotive vehicles.
For the two first months of 2009 are the number of bankrupt companies 149 but the two first months of 2008 were 97 bankruptcies which equals to 54% increase between the years.

The investment company Sudurnesjamenn ehf is bankrupt and claims on the bankrupt estate have been requested. Sudurnesjamenn intended to buy a share in the Heating utility Sudurnesja but ended in investing in the Savings fund bank of Keflavik, Icebank and the Blue Lagoon. This was amongst other financed by Icebank.

Nysir Fasteignir ehf, subsidiary of Nysir hf. has been taken into bankruptcy at the district court of Reykjanes. Also the subsidiary of Nysir Fasteignir, Engidalur ehf, has been taken into bankruptcy. The liquidating eeting in the bankrupt estates has been set on May 22nd, but two liquidating managers are over the bankrupt estate, Thorsteinn Einarsson and Astradur Haraldsson.
Nysir Fasteignir runs properties of various educational institutions and companies. For instance the sport center of Bjork in Hafnarfjordur, kindergarten Alfasteinn and Laekjarskoli in Hafnarfjordur.

The lawyers of Glitnir and Islandsbanki objected in the district court of Reykjavik yesterday that Baugur would be granted a continued authorization of moratorium. If the judge will go by the will of Glitnir, will Baugur be put into the bankruptcy process. The results are supposed to be ready next Monday. |

The board of Samson Holdings have taken a desicion to ask from the district court that the estates of Samson to be taken to a petition of bankruptcy. The company is owned by Björgolf Guðmundsson and Björgolfur Thor Björgolfsson.
The 4th of November the district court declined the request of Samson Holdings to prolong the moratorium.
