The chairman of the labor union of reporters and a reporter for Morgunbladid, Thora Kristin Asgeirsdottir, has been layd off from Morgunbladid. There have already a number of employees layd off becuase of a broad organizing changes and are now close to twenty who have been fired so far.

Thora Kristin confirmed with Visir that she has been layd off. She does not want to comment about the matter as is, but says that the labor union of reporters is looking at these layoffs and there may be expected some reactions to that later today.

At least 300 persons are going to lose their jobs in mass-layoffs in October and November. Then are 250 persons going to lose their jobs in September according to the information at the website of the directorate of labor.

As DV reported about on Wednesday morning were close to 50 persons laid off in August but in question was a company in construction or related operations.

Icelandair will this winter fly to 13 destinations in total. On average are 35 flights from Iceland per week from October 2009 till March 2010. The flights are to 9 cities in Europe and 4 cities in North America this winter. The plan of the winter is similar to the plan last winter. The main change is the scheduled flight to and from Seattle in USA which starts in July.

The contractor company Nesprydi in Reykjanesbaer laid all of its employees off last Thursday. The companies employee number was around fifty. This is confirmed by Jon B. Olsen CEO of Nesprydi.

He says that the company is not going into bankruptcy but there was nothing else that could have been done than lay off all of the employees because of lack of projects. "We want to be able to pay wages and their notice. We want to be able to pay the payments from our equipment. We want to be on top of things," says Jon.

In March were 7 announcements to the directorate of labor where in total 357 persons were laid off. Three announcements were from financial companies in total 84% of those laid off were laid off this way, three resignations were from a store and repairs and one resignation from construction.

All of the employees of Frjalsi Fjarfestingarbankinn were laid off yesterday. These layoffs are a part part of the decision of the FSA to lay off all of the employees of SPRON and it´s subsidiaries, including the employees of Frjalsi Fjarfestingarbankinn.

Rehiring a part of the employees is being reviewed.
