The expenses of the liquidating committees and the evaluation of the position and assets of the banks since October last year are going to be close to a billion krona on April 1st says Alfheidur Ingadottir, chairman of the trade committee of Althing. "It can be said so that this is the total expense of the process of the collapse of the banks in this term," says Alfheidur.

At a meeting of the committee this morning was a review of this expense and there was said amongst other that the expense because of the liqudating committee till the end of Januay was 240 million krona. According to the emergency law will that expense fall directly on the national treasury. All other expense will on the other hand fall on the financial supervisory administration, which appoints the liquidating committees, but that is for instance because of the services purchased elsewhere for instance from accounting companies and specialists.

There is a bill at the parliament for law where there is a suggestion of how the expenses of the liquidating committee will be paid. There is a suggestion that it should not fall on the national treasury but should be treated like liquidating expenses, that is, it would be paid from the estate itself. After the validation, if the bill will be turned into law, will the expense so stop falling on the national trasury and should be paid out of the bankrupt estate of the old banks.
