Már appointed manager of the Central Bank  E-mail

Már GuðmundssonThe Prime Minister has appointed Már Guðmundsson in the office of Central Bank Manager for the next 5 years starting from the 20th of August 2009 and Arnór Sighvatsson in the office of Assistant Central Bank Managera for 4 years starting from the 1st of July 2009.

Már Guðmundsson finished a BA of Economics from the University of Essex additionally he studied ecocomics and math in the universtiy of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has a M-phil degree in economics from the University of Cambridge and also studied for his doctors degree there. Már has since 2004 acted as assistand manager of the money and economics field of the Internationalbank in Basel Switzerland. He worked before at the Central Bank of Iceland for 2 decades and ther of 10 years as the banks main economist. Már was the economics advisor for the minister of finance from 1988-1991. Már has written a number of articles and esseys about money and currency issues and related issues. 

Arnór Sighvatsson finished his doctors degree of economics from the University of North Illinois and had prior to that finished his BA in history and philosphy from the University of Iceland and a MA in economics from the University of North Illinois. While finishing his studies Arnór worked for the Statistical Bureau of Iceland and taught at the Univeristy of North Illinois while doing finishing his doctors degree. He started working for the Central Bank in 1990, was the main economist and president of the economic department from 2004 and acting assistand Central Bank Managera from 2009. Arnór was the assistant to the president of the IMF for the Nordic officefrom 1993-1995. Arnór is the author of many articles of monitery matters and currency affairs. 

Acting Central Bank Manager, Svein Harald Øygard, will act as such until Már Guðmundsson takes over the office on the 20th of August.
