Mar Gudmundsson and Arnor Sighvatsson were valued as most eligible for the position of the central bank governor, but a special evaluation committee which was set to evaluate the ability of the applicants has finished their work, according to the newsroom. Eight applicants for the position of the central bank governor filled the minimum educational conditions of the law about a University degree. In that group were for instance Thorvaldur Gylfason and Asgeir Jonsson. The evaluation committee came to the conclusion that Mar and Arnor were most eligible. Mar works for the international bank in Switzerland but he was the main economist of the central bank for a long time. Arnor was also the main economist of the central bank until he was set temporarily as the assistant central bank governor. Sixteen applied for the positon of the assistant cental bank governor and the committee came to the conclusion that the most eligible persons were Arnor Sighvatsson who applied for both positions. Tryggvi Palsson and Yngvi Orn Kristinsson also applied. Yngvi is the chairman of the economic department of Landsbanki but Tryggvi is on the ther hand the director of the financial field of the central bank of Iceland. The prime minister will decide who will be set in the positions.
