It is good to hear from you. Please tell us, is there no social welfare system such as this in place in Iceland? http://www.tr.is/english/social-insurance-in-iceland/

Hi Jo! Nice to hear from you again. TR Is the social insurance system for disabled and injured, more like a medical fund.

Or to explain it is mainly for child care benefits, old age benefits (sort of like a pension thing), and if you get seriously hurt and end up in hospital for a while, this will help paying for therapy in the hospital and the care for the time, and this system pays monthly payments for the disabled, like those who live in homes, and others that have been in serious accidents and are left in wheelchairs, also they support those who have diseases that are incurable like cancer, lupus and so forth.
The government does not have a "general" support system, but does have welfare system which is very difficult to get help from, and when applying for that one has to apply for help in various other places like pension funds and the TR which you mentioned, and it takes a while to get an answer from all places. After that is done, the public welfare system might grant you a "loan" for two months, paid out 1st on each month where each payment is at most 100.000 which is at least 36.000 less than minimum wages in Iceland.
The system is very difficult to get help from.
There is no food aid run by the government, only private run "associations/companies", which are close to being out of support and food, and one has announced that they are closing down for a while.
