Breathe in .. breathe out .. breath in ..
and out .. oh my .. and not even going to finish this sentence. I am sorry for the "lag" of posts, for some reason I seem to have extremely bad luck around this computer, and now the keyboard buttons are popping off after I type a bit. Can anyone imagine how frustrating it is to focus on something and you have to type, and type fast, and the buttons keep popping and/or shooting off?? .. I do not wish this on anyone.
But ... I have got a few to stick on, and been working back in time translating .. and translating the very first news articles of this morning and i´m ........ ?????
"the problems are much greater than anyone expected" .. from the prime minister? Okay, i´m breathing right now, but if she is actually saying NOW, a few months earlier than I expected, that were basically .. in .. you know what, i´m ... going for a walk. Post later.
take iT easy

Not that I want to sound like a jerk or anything, but this is a good example of preps for those electronic items that can fail, usually items that have some mechanical part will fail earlier. A solid state part may not fail for a long time, meaning non-movable, electronics, but even these fail with heat and things like flex or hairline cracks in a motherboard, etc.
So the goal for some (medium term goal) who are prepping for depressions or other scenarios is to have duplicates of basic equipment that can fail and perhaps (sunset, if the technology goes away due to long term declines like peak oil, embargos etc.)
So for critical items like perhaps a piece of computer technology that you're relying on for internet access, for Newsfrettir it may be more critical than for most folks, spare parts is a good thing to plan for in your preps.
I happen to have a few keyboards that I can attach to my laptop and they are USB, nothing special, and you can probably even find used ones or spare ones someone else doesn't need. The cost to store a couple other keyboards is practically zero. I also like more than one USB drive as a spare to have more than one, usually mechanical things wear out and external drives are better because they are easy to add or toss, even take in for repair. So some things, it's better to have a couple spares.
If I lived in Iceland I'd just drive by and drop off one of my keyboards and you'd be set, but it should be easy to still find one in Iceland. We haven't reached Peak Oil and limits on the production of plastic goods and keyboards yet.

When there is no currency, you have to resort to the main currency that has been around since the beginning of time. Bartering or selling of services.
If you know some about computers, sewing, or manual labor, do some of that in exchange for food or other needed items.
If you are out in the country, try reading up on setting traps to capture animals for consumption. Try finding a used fishing rod or buy one if possible and go down to the water and try fishing.
I don't know what your laws are for gathering things or hunting but they probably would be overlooked to some degree if people are hurting badly.
If the money situation doesn't improve, the only ones that are going to hang around Iceland are the ones that adapt to the new situation. Most people in the world are so spoiled with the paper money system that nobody knows how to take care of themselves anymore. All they know how to do is borrow money to the point of breaking the whole system.
One of the worst things the world did was to leave the gold and silver system for currency. The system we have now, only the very top people win in the end. When I mean the very top, it the wealthiest in all nations and the very top central banks. Ever notice that the central banks never get nationalized.

Hey Scott,
I think you are right. There is the possibility of paper values returning to zero, therefore it makes sence to concentrate on what we physically own, and what skills we have, and how to barter and share. As communities (nations?) and individuals.
By the way, most european central banks are indeed nationalized, at least the german Bundesbank and the Bank of England. However, they claim to be "independent", but I think for example the ECB is more the "Bank of the Banks" rather than the "Bank of the Peoples", and they are the watchdogs of the debt-based paper money system.
